Last night the ask an expert applications were upgraded to the new version in all communities. The new version looks and works similar to the old version, however it provides a number of new features including:
    • The ability to search specifically within the ask an expert application.
    • The ability to allow community members to post answers to questions, without giving them the ability to approve/edit new questions.
    • The ability to change the template used to display the list of questions.
    • The ability to allow non-members to post questions.
If you find any issues or have any questions about the new ask an expert application, please email support@orbius.com.

    New Features & Enhancements

Community Usage Metrics - A new community usage metrics page has been added to the Manage Community area in all community sites to allow administrators to monitor the activity in their communities and see which members are contributing. You can find it under the 'Tools & Services' section. Please note that this is only available for community sites with members since it is not applicable for static non-member sites.

    New Beta Versions of Applications
    - Beta versions of the blog, discussion forum, and image gallery applications are now available on all sites. These new applications have been rebuilt on our new application framework and provide many additional features including application-specific search, content approval workflow, and non-member posting. Please feel free to try them out and send us any feedback. Once the new versions of these applications have been fully tested we will be replacing the old versions with them and upgrading any existing applications as we have already done with the content library application.

Last night the Orbius platform was upgraded to run on the latest version of the Microsoft .NET Framework. This upgrade comes as part of an ongoing effort to make sure that the Orbius platform is using the latest versions of all third party software and services. It is purely a behind-the-scenes upgrade and there should be absolutely no changes to the look or functionality of the Orbius platform as a result of this change. In the event that you experience any issues with your Orbius site or community or have any questions, please contact us at support@orbius.com.

    Thank you,
    Orbius Support Team

You may have noticed that there is a new beta version of the content library application available in the new application drop down list on your site. This new version of the content library has a number of major enhancements and changes to the old version including the ability to drag and drop files and folders to a new location in the tree view, the ability to have administrators approve new items posted by members, and the ability to search within items posted in the library.

Over the next couple of weeks we will be making the new beta version of the content library application live and upgrading all existing content libraries to the new version. Since the content library is a complex and widely used application, we will be giving community administrators the chance to inspect the upgraded versions of the content libraries in their sites before the upgrade is run on the live sites. This will allow you to make sure that the upgrade process worked correctly for your applications and notify us of any issues before the upgrade is run on your live site.

To do this, all of the data from the live Orbius sites was copied to our beta testing environment as of 2:00 am EST last night, and the content library application upgrade process was run on that copy of the data. This will allow you to view an exact copy of your site on our beta environment and compare the upgraded content libraries with the old ones on your live site. The following are instructions for accessing your site on the Orbius beta testing environment:

    • If the web address of your site is something.orbius.com you can access your site by going to something.orbiusbeta.com.
    • If you have mapped a domain name to your site so the web address is like www.something.com you can access your site by replacing the periods with dashes and adding .orbiusbeta.com to the end. So for example, www.something.com would become www-something-com.orbiusbeta.com.
    • Before you can access your site on the beta environment you will be prompted for an authorization code. Enter Password1 as the authorization code (be sure to use a capital P).
    • Once you are in you should see an exact copy of your live site as of 2:00 am EST on April 6th.
    • You can log in with the same username and password as you would on your live site.
So please compare the upgraded content libraries in your community on the beta testing environment with the existing ones on your live site and send an email to support@orbius.com if you see any problems. If we do not hear from you by 5:00 pm EST on Monday, April 12th we will assume that you do not have any issues with the upgrade process and the content library applications on your live site will be upgraded shortly thereafter.
